UK Water Resources Portal

This is a web tool for displaying water resources and drought information based on:

• River flows from the National River Flow Archive (NRFA, updated monthly)*, Environment Agency (EA, updated daily) and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA, updated daily).
• Rainfall from the Met Office (provided on a grid, and aggregated up to gauging station catchments and river basins) (updated monthly).
• Soil moisture from UKCEH's COSMOS-UK soil moisture network (updated daily).
• Groundwater levels from the British Geological Survey* (updated monthly).

What's new

• Extra buttons in the hoverbar on graphs, including the option to draw the related river-flow/rainfall catchment graph.
• Colour changer — toggle between rainbow and red–blue.
• Toggle size button (in top bar) to enable full or half width maps and graphs.
• Station lists for each dataset ( ), so can search for station, view the graph and download the standardised indices csv data.
• Rainfall SPI hydrological units areas and groups swap depending on zoom level, including raw monthly data.
• Graphs for rainfall SPI grids (click on a grid square).
• View entire time-series for standardised indices (click the All button from # of years). Rainfall SPI hydrological units data available from 1862.

More information

Please note that:

• Near real-time river flows are only available for England and Scotland — these come from the EA Hydrology data service and SEPA data service respectively.
• River flow data for the last few days is often not available via the data services — step back a few days to see the most recent data, or switch to monthly data.
• Dotted lines on the river flow graphs mean data remain unchecked (by EA/SEPA) and may be erroneous.
• River flow data for Wales and Northern Ireland, rainfall and groundwater data and the standardised indices are currently only available to the end of the previous month.
